The Friday Five and Other

1) What's the weather like where you are right now?
Today was very sunny and hot. I stayed inside with the air con on. Saturday we had a typhoon go through. Not bad. It was a nice day in.
2) Has your weather been seasonally appropriate lately, or has it been unusual?
Well, our rainy season was unusually short. Other than that, it's been normal.
3) Have you noticed any trends in the weather near you over the past few years?
We haven't had snow in ages. I am starting to despair of ever getting any.
4) Are you worried about climate change?
Yes and No. I think the Japanese governments might be trying to make us paranoid recently though for some other reason. They talk about reducing garbage by taking away garbage cans in public places, but that's dumb because people are going to take the garbage home and throw it away there anyway. That is not an overall reduction. They have pressured stores into reducing the use of plastic bags by making people pay for them separately, but people are going to need some bags to throw away their garbage at home so they are going to buy them anyway. So, all they are doing is taxing the consumer more and more. If they would reduce the excess packaging on the products, I think it would be more effective way to reduce garbage.
5) Are you doing anything to combat climate change?
We reuse and recycle.
I forgot to mention that I went to get my hair cut again. It's been a whole year since I went before. I can't believe it. It was nice though. My hairdresser is far from our present home. 11/2hours by train. The guy told me most of his clients live far away now, which was interesting to hear. They all just keep going back to him like me because they can't trust or find a good one where they live now I guess. We are similar in our interests in health and fitness. He lost quite a bit of weight too, and is eating healthy so we talk about the cost of healthy foods here. He has two dogs too, so we talk about pets. And he hasn't had the vaccine or had COVID yet either, which is the same as me as well. When he had finished with my hair, it had started to pour. I would be soaked if I walked to the station. He suggested a taxi, and the distance to the station not being that far, I agreed. I tried a taxi ap that the choir tried the other day for the festival. I got a free 10 dollar coupon so the ride was free.
I finished rewatching Suits again, then went on to Breaking Bad. No, I hadn't watched it yet. It was suggested because I watched Peaky Blinders but I don't really see the resemblance at all. Except for the drugs and gangs? And that the main characters are both smart in their own way? LOL I guess the shows are both rather dark too. I am skipping through it. One huge difference is that the main character of Breaking Bad is not aesthetically pleasing to look at. I watched a bit of Big Sky. Eeeeh, I really don't like Jensen's acting so far, and the main characters - girls - are not the best either, plus the plot is just too drawn out. I doubt I will watch S3.
I finished reading a mystery set in 1800s The Ruby in the Smoke by Phillip Pullman. I realized halfway through that I may have possibly grown out of this genre. I also felt like it was a good imitation of the style of the time but not quite good enough. There were clear indications that it was geared to modern day readers which put me off. Maybe it was just my mood, but the writing itself didn't strike me as special either. I don't think I will be reading the sequels. I enjoyed These Dark Materials so it was a bit of a letdown.
My disapointment with the book may also stem from the stress I'm feeling from work and our financial situation. This week is a busy one for me. I will be taking over as many classes I can of another teacher who will be quitting at the end of September and thus feels she can take two weeks off in August as well. I asked another teacher to take over the other classes and then he got a fever and I don't expect to be able to count on him anytime soon. I believe he has had chronic fatigue for the last three or four years. Everytime he has fallen ill, it has taken him ages. Literally months, to recover. We had reduced his classes significantly due to this, but he seemed to be getting better and was asking for more classes so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and asked him to sub the classes this week and next. Well, look where that got me LOL I am ready to give up. This always happens during the summer - where we are scrambling to find replacement teachers. Sometimes we find a good one, most of the time they are mediocre at best, and we have had a few really bad ones. It would be so much easier if we just downsized and I did it on my own. And we will be doing that probably, as soon as it is possible. Anyway, today, Alex will be subbing the classes. He will be doing bigger kids classes for the first time today but he is doing me a favor.
Today, Audrey got up early in my stead to take Hana for a walk. I really appreciated being able to sleep in until 8. Yesterday, they made dinner for themselves. Hamburgers :D<3

I love my kids.
It's supposed to get super hot here today - up to 40c in Tokyo.

Heatstroke warnings are out.
I will be staying indoors with the cooler on all day except travelling to the farther classroom. I think I might take a change of clothes just in case I sweat rivers on the way there.

Did you do anything different with your hair?
Breaking Bad really isn't that aesthetically pleasing but the story and the acting are insane. The show is relatable in a lot of ways and makes you think, "what would I do in this situation?" You can see why people make the choices that they do, even if they aren't good ones. What season are you in right now?

Jane's father told Walt not to give up on family and yes, it's true as Walt said that he didn't give up on his own family/wife, but I thought it pertained more to how he didn't give up on Jesse.

Date: 2022-08-16 05:53 pm (UTC)Walt's paranoia does get to be exhausting but he does end up having his reasons for it. Maybe taking a break might be better than quitting altogether. I did enjoy the first three or four seasons, season five actually was tough to watch.
There is a movie to watch after the show- it's called El Camino and features Jesse specifically. It's a GOOD watch & I do recommend it.
It is touching to see that kind of relationship with Jesse and Walt, I did like that. I also thought it had a son/father feel, too. Season five is rough to watch - because you see a lot of deterioration in general with all relationships - but ...well, if you get there, you'll see.

I was sad for a bunch of characters that died, but happy at least there was a little bit of a happy ending somewhere for someone.

Date: 2022-08-20 09:01 am (UTC)I am the person hiring since I am the owner of the school, and yes it would be nice if we could hire someone like that who is qualified. Unfortunately, there are not many qualified teachers around here in need of a part-time job.
