It is about a human girl, her twin and her elf half-sister being raised by their elf father in elf-land- after he kills their mother for running off with another (human) man right in front of their eyes. Imagine the trauma, right? But the elf father raises them as their father and they grow to sort of love him and he them in his twisted way. Then comes the various difficulties of growing up in this magic world, greatly disadvantaged as human. The main character learns to protect herself and cover for her various weaknesses in this world, becomes a royal spy, uncovers an assassination plot and uses her brains to come out on top of a difficult situation. She's totally badass.
That *is* a compelling story! I'm genuinely not really into YA books (I don't want to read about kids, honestly) but I've debated on getting into some of Holly Black's novels. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and the background of the story :)
